As the holiday season approaches, we begin to think of digging out the summer walking wear and how to stay cool, stylish and comfortable on warmer walks.
The key is to wear cool tech or breathable tops as some materials can hold sweat in and make you feel sticky. Walking shirts by companies like Rohan (one of our discount partners) are designed to keep you fresh and some have built in insect repellent and UV filters too.
As we shrug off the waterproof trousers and transfer from long thermal leggings to lightweight shorts and ‘capri’ lengths, it’s nice to feel the sun on our legs after months of mud!
However, not everyone feels comfortable with tights or shorts and that’s where the SKORT comes in to play. All the comfort of capri length tights or cycling shorts but with the added bonus of a flattering skirt to skim the hips.
Loved by runners, nordic walkers and hikers, skorts are super comfortable due to their stretchy fabric and high-waisted fit. They allow for movement, even when doing exercises or stretches and are designed to stay cool and dry too. Suitable for a short workout session or a day in the hills, these versatile, easy to pack wonders are quick dry too!
The designs help to reduce chafing and there are two lengths depending on preferences – this shorter length is officially the SKORT whilst a capri length version fo rthose who prefer to cover their knees is known as the SKAPRI!
There are also full length and capri lengths tights in this stylish range of walking wear by Flanci – all with subtle WALX branding and colours plus SALE prices too! SHOP THE RANGE HERE
Just a note to those about to uncover their legs….. BE TICK AWARE! Make sure that if you are in an areas prone to ticks, you should always use a tick prevention product prior to setting off and always check yourself thoroughly when you get back too. Ticks are as keen to be out and about as you are now so be prepared. We advise that you carry a tick card and cover both legs and arms when walking through tall bracken or grasses in high risk areas.

Your feet need to stay comfortable in hot weather too so think about well fitted breathable socks that do not have any excess material likely to bunch up or cause your feet to slide about. Blisters are caused by heat and dampness so don’t skimp on socks.
We love the Lorpen range because they have the features outlined above and padding in all the right places too. They have trainer socks as shown plus ankle height versions to suit all sizes ( male and female)
If you are still prone to blisters, check out the amazing pelitec blister prevention packs which stop friction and can placed inside your shoes exactly where your blisters tend to form. Much better than treating the blister and repeating the process after every walk!
For shorter walks, it’s nice to shrug off the backpack as you have less to carry. Try one of our new Fizan waist packs which have enough room for a light layer, your phone keys, a snack and your water!
Don’t forget you need enough water to be able to drink a small amount every 20 minutes or so rather than gulping it down when you get thirsty (which is too late) or when you get back.
