As Summer approaches, it’s time to plan for those walks further afield like the group in our headline picture from WALX wessex who met up with two Italian Nordic Walking groups for a weekend adventure. The number one question we get asked at this time of year is……….
Can you take walking poles on an aeroplane?
The answer is YES but…………. typically airlines will NOT allow any walking poles in the hold unless you can prove that you use them for stability or a recognised medical condition. Clearly they can have sharp tips and by used as a weapon so this is understandable. We have also been alerted that in this scenario, some people have only been allowed to take ONE pole on board with them so if you are a confirmed two poler (and you ought to be in our opinion, unless your medical condition negates it!) this might cause issues.
SO, what’s the solution?
If your favourite pair of poles are two piece or extendable versions, you can still take them with you but you may need to book them in as outsize or sports luggage as you would skis, golf clubs, paddle boards, bikes etc. Our team can usually help you with the weight and suitable carry bags for travelling.
Most telescopic or traveller poles break into three sections and it is usually possible to pop them into a suitcase so they are a great idea. On our website, we do provide the length and weight of most models to help you manage this.
Some walkers will have a special telescopic pair of poles especially for when they travel whilst others will choose more portable versions for everyday that can double up when travelling. In that instance we would recommend that you spend a bit more and go for good quality.
We have a full section for telescopic walking poles on the WALX website see HERE
We are also delighted to introduce the latest version of the WALX poles which have our unique Ergonomic handle and curved shaft for ultimate comfort and natural movement but break into 3 pieces for portability. The WALX Xplorer poles reduce to only 48 cms in length when broken down and come with a handy bag too. They are super lightweight and designed to reduce fatigue by harnessing the power of the upper body and promoting good posture. So not only can you fit them into your bags, you can also return from holiday refreshed, fit and full of tales of your adventures!
