WALX South Lincs is a friendly walking and wellbeing community based in Spalding, helping people become more active, improve their health and enjoy life through Total Body Walking and Nordic Walking.

Our walks are designed for people who want to stay active, independent and connected. Whether you’re looking to improve your balance, build confidence, meet new people or simply enjoy spending more time outdoors, you’ll always receive a warm welcome.

With many years of experience leading Nordic Walking groups, alongside a strong background in sport, fitness and rehabilitation, we’re passionate about helping people move with confidence. Research shows that walking with poles can reduce pressure on the knees and hips, improve posture and balance, support bone health and provide a safe, effective full-body workout.

At WALX South Lincs, it’s about far more than just walking. It’s about movement, wellbeing, friendship and enjoying the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside together.

At WALX South Lincs, walking is just the beginning.”

The Team

Mike Neary

Role: Walxs Master Owner

Mike Neary – WALX Master Owner I’ve always believed that staying active is one of the best investments we can make in our health and happiness. After serving 22 years in the RAF Regiment, I developed a lifelong love of the outdoors and the positive impact that regular movement has on both body and mind. These days, there’s nothing I enjoy more than helping people discover the confidence and enjoyment that comes from walking together in the countryside. I actually discovered Nordic Walking by accident. After attending a taster session, I was hooked. I bought my first pair of poles and never looked back. What started as a new way to keep fit soon became a way of life, replacing cycling after more than 40 years in the saddle. What I love most about Total Body Walking is that it isn’t just for naturally fit or sporty people. It’s for ordinary people who want to stay active, improve their health, enjoy the outdoors and remain independent for as long as possible. Time and time again I’ve seen people arrive feeling unsure of themselves, only to leave with more confidence, new friendships and a genuine enjoyment of being active again. That’s why WALX South Lincs is about far more than walking. It’s about creating a welcoming community where nobody feels left behind, everyone is encouraged at their own pace and people look forward to coming back week after week. Alongside leading WALX, I’m also a qualified Sports Massage Therapist, Tai Chi Rehabilitation Instructor, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Coach. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that good health is about more than exercise alone. Movement, balance, confidence and mental wellbeing all work together, and that’s the approach I bring to every walk. I also deliver specialist First Aid training for Nordic Walking and outdoor leaders because I believe confidence comes from being well prepared. Knowing how to respond in an emergency is an important part of enjoying the outdoors safely. Whether you’re joining us to improve your fitness, regain confidence, stay independent or simply enjoy good company in the fresh air, you’ll always receive a warm welcome. I’d love to meet you and help you take that first step.

Chris Thompson

Role: Total Body Walxs Instructor

Chris enjoys helping people discover that becoming more active doesn’t have to feel like hard work or punishment. His friendly and encouraging approach helps new members settle into the group and enjoy progressing at their own pace. For Chris, the best part of WALX is seeing people become more confident, make new friends and begin looking forward to their next walk.

Ann Marie Neary

Role: Marketing & Business Director

Ann-Marie helps shape the welcoming and supportive experience at the heart of WALX South Lincs. Her role includes developing the business, communicating with members, supporting events and helping more local people discover what WALX has to offer. What Ann-Marie values most is seeing people arrive as strangers and gradually become friends. She believes that staying active is important, but feeling included and connected matters just as much. From your first enquiry onwards, Ann-Marie wants you to feel that you’re joining a community where people genuinely care.
