Gone WALX about in Summer

WALX Tenerife braved the 31 degree heat and energy sapping volcanic dust called Picon to cover the 8 mile Lanzarote Wine run. Although they resisted the urge to stop at the regular wine breaks!

In typical WALX style, they ran into the Tutor who taught them to be Instructors in the UK (Sam) who later also discovered that another WALXer from Preston was at the event too!

WALX groups are popping up all over the globe now so if you are off on holiday and want a walk with a welcome…….look them up and say hello!

These two promise they will not make you stomp through the heat or drink wine en route but they will show you the best walks and how to avoid the crowds

Meanwhile a half Marathon was on the cards for the Nordic Walking Tameside group – who chose a hilly route around the Peak District in a heatwave! Their aim was to top up their £5,200 sponsorship pot .

They were walking for the Alzheimer’s society and this picture shows them at Chatsworth House with wonderful views beyond.

A great way to spend a Saturday in June!

There were a few celebration walks recently too. WALX Wessex in Wiltshire celebrated 11 years of walking together around ancient Forests and mystical stone circles with WALX Master Ashley – congratulations!

In St Albans, the WALX Ver Valley group took a history tour around the Roman city as part of their 10 year anniversary too. This group mix up their walks every week from fitness stomps and yoga to history & culture  – its all in a weeks WALX as they say!

In the title image WALX Coast and Country enjoyed a tour of local gardens and also squeezed in a tree and  history walk

Meanwhile in Leamington Spa the WALX group lead by Emma White went on a guided tour of their local Gurdwara

28 walkers attended the session with local guide Myjindar who gave them an insight into the role the Gurdwara plays in the wider community

The walkers all remarked how valuable the session was and how enlightening they found the Sikh attitudes to tolerance and respect for all humanity

Emma also helped to organise a 5km sponsored walk for the Warwickshire law society proving that community links are an important part of the WALX concept.

Whilst walking and using poles forms the basis of our get together, our groups also have strong social ties and a thirst for trying new things

This group from Milton Keynes Nordic walking supported another small local business by booking a willow weaving workshop!

Despite it looking like a giant twig tangle in the image their Instructor Emma Wrighton assures us that they all picked up the weaving knack quickly and were soon deep in concentration.

Each made a delightful hanging basket! Proof that learning new skills and being with others is as valuable as being active for all round wellbeing!
