WALX in the Community

WALX Tutors have been busy training the teams at two very special locations recently – in fact on the same day in March we were delighted to train inspirational teams in the Midlands and the South.

ALICE HOLT FOREST near Farnham is Surrey is an amazing historic location that has been managed by Forestry England (formally the Forestry Commission) since 1924. Oaks from the ancient hunting Forests were said to have been used to build ships for the Napoleonic wars but these days the paths wander through plantations and there is a visitor centre for all to enjoy.

We are lucky enough to have been working with the Rangers, Activity teams and volunteers at this site since 2011 when they first introduced Nordic Walking. Over the years, the Instructors and leaders have changed but the walks have carried on thanks to dedicated volunteers!

Martin Christie who taught the original Rangers went back to re train the current team so they can now deliver TOTAL BODY WALKING and inspirational POWER of POLES workshops for people who want to experience what walking with specially designed poles can provide.

Their regular weekly walks throughout the site also continue and the group is keen to grow.

Meanwhile on the outskirts of Stratford on Avon another WALX Tutor Emma White joined the team from the Forest of Hearts charity. This amazing organisation have been green entrepreneurs almost as long as we have been promoting outdoor fitness and wellbeing so it was a perfect fit for them to become a WALX partner.

Having secured a 5 acre site their vision now is for an affordable, beautiful and inclusive outdoor space with high quality facilities including an outdoor kitchen area with a pizza oven and accessible toilet which local organisations and clubs can hire for exclusive use to meet their own objectives and improve the health and wellbeing.

TOTAL BODY WALKING is the ideal way to incorporate exercise for all levels to enjoy into the programme and the team braved hail storms to master how to deliver inspirational POWER of POLES workshops.

WALX loves to work with charities and community groups who wnat to make a difference via walking and using poles for whole body exercise

Other recent examples have been THE CHATTING CHIMERS CIC who work to improve the lives of marginalised Women and Children in Lancashire and THE WILBERFORCE TRUST who have been supporting people with visual and hearing impairments since 1833

LYMM RUNNERS in Cheshire have recently trained 2 of their volunteers to deliver TOTAL BODY WALKING as they felt it fitted perfectly as progression for their walkers and cross training for their runners!

WALX programmes are inspirational and adaptable because we understand that its not just about how to use poles effectively – it’s about each individual –  what they can do now and what they have the potential to do with practice, support and a sociable group!

Get in touch if you would like to discuss training for your team.
