Waterfalls, Ridges & Mountain Legends
July 2nd - 7th

Brecon Beacons Legends
Discover its sweeping landscapes, mountain ridges, dramatic escarpments, deep valleys and tumbling waterfalls.
Bannau Brycheiniog, better known as the Brecon Beacons, is a landscape of sweeping mountain ridges, dramatic escarpments, deep valleys and tumbling waterfalls. Its varied scenery stretches from the iconic central peaks of Pen y Fan, Corn Du and Cribyn to the quieter Black Mountains, Waterfall Country and the wild western reaches of the Carmarthen Fans. Over four walking days, we will explore a selection of these distinctive landscapes, combining memorable mountain routes with rivers, waterfalls and gentler valley paths. The itinerary will remain deliberately flexible so we can select the most rewarding walks while responding safely to the weather and mountain conditions.

Brecon
Brecon is a lively market town with plenty of character and a rich history.
Brecon is a lively market town with plenty of character and a rich history shaped by its Norman castle, cathedral and military connections. Its compact centre offers independent shops, welcoming cafés, traditional pubs and restaurants, making it an enjoyable place to return to after a day’s walking. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal begins in the town, while the rivers Usk and Honddu provide pleasant waterside routes. Its central location also makes travelling to each day’s walk straightforward, giving us access to several distinct parts of the national park. Our accommodation will be based in the historic market town of Brecon, placing us close to local cafés, pubs and shops and within easy reach of the surrounding mountains. The itinerary will remain deliberately flexible, although carefully planned, allowing the group to enjoy the best possible walking while responding safely to the weather and mountain conditions

Home to the highest peak in Southern Britain
Fan – the Welsh word for summit – features in the names of several of the rugged mountains in the Brecon Beacons…
Arrive in Brecon on Friday 2 July and settle into Beacons Guesthouse before meeting for a relaxed evening meal. Over the following four days, we will enjoy varied walks of approximately five to seven hours:
After breakfast on Wednesday, we depart Brecon, with time for an optional final stroll beside the River Usk or along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.

Mountain Trails
Expect a mix of well-defined mountain paths, rough moorland, rocky ascents, and occasional short scrambly sections on peaks.
This is a moderate to challenging mountain walking adventure, suitable for experienced walkers with a good level of fitness and confidence on rough ground. The programme includes four consecutive walking days of approximately 13–16 km, with ascents of around 575–850metres. The terrain will include sustained climbs, steep descents, broad mountain ridges, rocky and uneven paths, grassy slopes and sections of wet or boggy ground. Some routes cross remote, pathless terrain where careful foot placement and good balance will be required. You should be comfortable walking for five to seven hours, carrying your own day rucksack and maintaining a steady pace throughout the day. Previous experience of mountain walking is strongly recommended.
