Short description

WALX of Wellbeing are free walks led by qualified volunteer walk leaders, previously known as Walking for Health Walks these are a great way to get outdoors, enjoy the green spaces and make new friends.

Walk Description:

A walk that is focussed on improving your cardio-vascular fitness encouraging you to achieve. 

It is fun and will challenge you appropriately.

You will be able to be sociable and talk but not "chat" freely as this is a fitness session not a wander.

The walk is suitable for all who have no limitations and who want to get fitter.

THE WALK LEADER WILL MANAGE THE DIFFERENT ABILITIES BY SENDING FASTER WALKERS OFF IN FRONT OR SENDING THEM BACK SO THAT EVERYONE GETS A WORKOUT DURING THIS SESSION.

 

There are several ways to increase fitness.  You could increase distance with loads of stiops or you could have a shorter distance with less stops.

Each week we focus on specific balance activities to activate the core and improve our equilibrium such as `clock` work, `tight rope`, `flamingo stand` and `superman`.  

We strengthen muscle groups with different `flex` activities - you may want to use light hand weights for this. A chair is an essential tool...

Finally we devote time to stretching out those muscles to increase flexibility, improve circulation, eliminate tightness and (most importantly) for relaxation.

A gentle safe way to walk yourself fitter! These walks include exercises that help with flexibility, balance and strength whilst using poles to improve general fitness and increase joint mobility. Suitable for those who want to build up to the longer or more vigorous walks or may have concerns about their health.

Open to Non nordic walkers but you will be using poles that you can borrow if you do not have your own.

Walk Description:

Note 10.20am meet up for a prompt 10.30am start. Miriam's Friday Meander is an easy/moderate pace fortnightly walk of around 4 miles, ideal for those who who would like to build their distance and stamina to a point that they can join Workout Walks and longer Adventure Walks. The walks are based in countryside locations easily accessed from the East Lancashire Road (A580) or M56/M60/M62/M61 corridors.  Get some great Nordic Walking exercise, fresh air and chat! When allowed/feasible there is an optional brew stop at a local cafe or pub after the walk or sometimes a bring your own mid walk 'Rucksack cafe'.  

THIS WEEK - Cutacre Country Park Revisited (Route 2)  - Join Miriam on this 4 mile walk & explore another route around this hidden gem. Cutacre CP is on the Little Hulton, Salford/Bolton Border just off the A6, easily accessible from the M61 junction 4. A reclaimed colliery site, it is alive with wildlife. The paths are mainly well surfaced but can be puddly. The site is quite exposed (hence the views) so dress for cold winds. The is the option for a post walk brew at Costa coffee which is very close to the park. 

Meeting point -  Cutacre Country Park Car Park, Rosemary Lane, Off Salford Road, BL5 1BS. From the M61 travelling northwards, leave at junction 4 (or alternatively head out of Salford along the A6). At the bottom of the sliproad take the first left off the roundabout onto Watergate Lane. At the next roundabout turn right onto the A6, Salford Road. After 0.3 mile (after passing the Whistl warehouse) turn left into the car park off Rosemary Lane. No toilets available at start but are available at the nearby Costa Coffee or local pubs after the walk (or before if you get there early). Limited options or going wild as no dense vegetation. 

Google Maps - search for Cutacre Country Park Car Park. (don't search by postcode).

PLEASE NOTE, you need to have your own poles to attend this walk as no poles will be available for hire on the day unless by prior arrangement.

Marple Bridge Adventure Walks

12:00-13:30 using Gears 1 and maybe 2 with some hills 

Come along and join us on easy paced social walks of around 5km (3miles), on varied circular routes around the village of Marple Bridge. There are canals, country parks, woodland, riverside paths, bridlepaths and some industrial heritage too.

We meet in the Free Car Park just above The Midland Hotel on Brabyns Brow, The red bays are 4 hours "Short Stay" so if one is free grab it!

This walk can be an easy but varied and beautiful walk along the canal then into fields circling back around either via the river or canal again depending on conditions underfoot as after heavy rain can be on the squelchy side.  However depending on the ability of the group we can add a hill and explore the lower slopes of Salisbury Hill.  Mainly a pacy Gear1 or 2 but options for Gear 3 for those who like more of a challenge.  Also options to increase the challenge or keeping it nice and steady so suitable for all levels of fitness.

Walk Description:

Disley Nordic Walks

Meeting at the War Memorial in Disley (in front of The Rams Head) we`ll have a warm-up before we head off exploring the magnificent countryside around the Parish of Disley. It varies from urban to rural very quickly with differing views to be had on each walk. There may be the opportunity to grab a coffee once the walk has finished.

The walks are advertised at 90mins but they may take a little longer than that, due to terrain, weather.

Time 10:00-11:30

Gears 1 and maybe 2 with some hills.

Distance approx 5km (3miles)
