Walk Description:
Set in tranquil countryside, the flint-walled ruins of this Augustinian abbey church tells a sad story of monastic disaster. After a devastating 15th-century fire, it was drastically reduced in size, with arches and windows blocked. Then plague struck, the last abbot died alone, and in 1506 the abbey closed.
Our walk will take us past the abbey and out beyond! Lovely cafe at the end...
Please dress appropriately for the weather, and don’t forget water, waterproofs (if necessary), suncream, bug spray AND ASTHMA INHALER

Walk Description:
Danebridge, Lud's Church and The Roaches
Meeting at Danebridge Wincle, we will set off through rolling fields and woodland along the Dane Valley Way before entering the wood and visiting Lud's Church, which is an 18 metre deep chasm created in the Roaches’ gritstone caused by a giant landslip, which over the ages has been covered from top to bottom in vibrant moss, this gives the chasm a different look every time you visit it as the perspective changes with the weather. more about Lud's Church can be found HERE
The Roaches (from the French les roches - the rocks) is a prominent rocky ridge above Leek and Tittesworth Reservoir in the Peak District. The ridge with its rock formations rises steeply to 505 m (1,657 ft). (wikipedia)
We intend to follow the ridgeline to Hanging Stone before heading back to Danebridge.
Gear 1 plus Hill Technique
This walk is 12km (approx 7.5miles) with a total ascent of 475m, the climb is steady for the most part apart from the optional trip upto The Roaches Trig Point.
Whilst we do understand that sometimes it is not possible to make a class, please be aware that we do operate a no refund policy if you give us less than 24 hours’ notice. To see the full policy click HERE
