START TIME 11.40.  Susan`s Thursday Motivator Nordic Walk is an gentle/easy pace 1 hour walk for those who have completed a Power of the Poles or Learn to Nordic Walk course & have their Freedom code. This session is ideal for those wanting to improve their fitness & who just want to have a Nordic Walk, fresh air and chat. Start times and locations vary to give variety on a week by week basis so please check carefully each week but will be in the Salford area. Run by NWUK Instructor, Susan Spain. 

This week - starting from The Moorings Pub, Boothstown. 

Meeting point - The Moorings Pub, Boothstown. Sat Nav, 2 Quayside Close, Boothstown M28 1YB. Meet in the car park of the pub. Turn off Leigh Road A577 into Booths Hall Way. Then turn left into Quayside Close and the pub is directly in front of you. Stay after the walk for a brew or a bite to eat at the Moorings which has indoor & outdoor seating. Toilets should be available at the pub which opens at 11am.

Nordic Walking poles may be hired at a cost of £1 (coin on the day). All poles are disinfected between use and quarantined for 72 hours before use.

Walk Description:

Come along and enjoy a Nordic Walk but we will also use the poles to incorporate some balance, coordination and strength activities.  All of these are so important as we get older and want to remain fit and mobile!

No previous Nordic Walking experience is required and you do not need to do a Nordic Walking induction session prior to joining the class - I will teach the technique slowly and over a number weeks.

A comfortably paced walk for you to enjoy in a social atmosphere, during the walk providing the weather is fine we will stop for a 20 minute session of Chi Ball - A mixture of Tai Chi and Yoga from the Winter sequence (See the dashboard for details on the virtual class). a small ball is used but imagination is fine for the session.  For those who have completed the Power of Poles Induction course –this walk varies in pace and is designed to help you to improve your fitness levels . This is a mixed pace friendly walking group to join;. Moore Nature reserve provides a variety of routes to enable you to practice your Nordic walking techniques on mainly flat terrain. We use the hides for brief stops to watch the birdlife on the lakes or shelter from the rain! Birdwatchers there often let us know if there are unusual birds to watch out for such as waxwings. Sometimes we meet at Delph Lane and walk in the Daresbury Firs to add a hill to increase intensity into our walk.

We`re stepping back out with caution as Government guidelines are allowing us a little more freedom to get out and Nordic Walk again. These walks will follow STRICT Social distancing rules 

This is for members with a Nordic Walking UK FREEDOM passport 

. Please bring a mask, hand gel/wipes, a pair of disposable gloves in a small rucsac with your drink and any medication you may need

Stride out for a walk of about 4 miles at the end of the day to blow away the day's stress, to reset, to breath in the fresh air whilst improving your fitness. Walking with poles is an excellent cross training exercise helping you to improve your general fitness. You will feel energised and ready to do it again tomorrow! 

Gear 1 - A nice, easy and natural pace that you can do for extended periods with recovery periods where appropriate. Short hills might be introduced.

Evening Adventure walk

This evening we will walk to Tissington to have a look at the well dressings. Finishing time will be around 8pm.

Following the ‘Learn to Nordic Walk Course’, this walk provides you with an opportunity to increase your speed, while maintaining the proper technique.  

An evening walk is the perfect way to end a busy working day, as it is an outdoors workout, which provides an opportunity to improve health and fitness.It allows you to work your muscles that you do not use much during the day. This can help in relieving stiffness and lower back pain and in relaxing your body and mind.

All this makes you sleep better as you will feel relaxed and free of any stress or tension.

Please note there are no toilets

This is for members with a Nordic Walking UK FREEDOM passport.

Please do not book for this walk if you think you may have symptoms or have been in contact with some one who has symptoms of Covid-19. Thank you for your understanding. 

Cancellation Policy: Please cancel 2 hours before the scheduled start time for a session credit to be applied. Cancellations inside of 2 hours will be charged in full.
