Walk Description:

The Nordic Walking UK ‘LEARN TO NORDIC WALK’ session is the ideal way to start your Nordic Walking journey to improved health and fitness.

This session will help you understand how to select the right kind of poles and use them for health, fitness, fun or challenges.

Why Nordic Walk?

Nordic Walking was originally developed from the summer training regime of cross-country skiers, it is an enhancement of ordinary walking. Nordic Walking works your upper and lower body, by engaging 90% of your body’s muscles, it will tone your legs, buttocks, chest, shoulders.

Many people confuse NORDIC WALKING with ‘Rambling’ or ‘trekking with poles’, but, both the poles and techniques are very different. While both activities use the poles for stability and also act to take some weight off the feet, only Nordic Walkers use the poles for FORWARD PROPULSION.

At Nordic Walking UK we compare the correct use of the specially designed Nordic Walking poles to the action of using the cross-training machine at the gym – A FULL BODY WORKOUT.

Who is Nordic Walking suitable for?

Nordic Walking is quite unique as a form of exercise in that it provides benefits for everybody. From those with medical problems to the very fit. Whatever your age, fitness level or goal, Nordic Walking is suitable, effective and enjoyable.

We offer 3 levels of Nordic Walk, 7 days a week (Well-being, Adventure and Workout) and will advise you, as part of the POWER OF POLES session, the best ones for YOU to start with. Our walking groups are friendly, fun and welcoming – come and JOIN US!

Walk Description:

Pace one

A 2k to 3k gentle WALX that incorporates balance work, flexibility and strength exercises and maybe a bit of yoga or relaxation too. On Monday these walks take place around Stanmore and Harrow Weald on mainly flat terrain but we do go on trails through the woods so that we can enjoy the changes in nature throughout the year. This is a very friendly group and we are always ready to welcome new walkers who want to get back into exercise in a safe and gradual way.

Starting in April 2025 there is also the option to sign up for the 6 week Total Body Walking Programme in the beautiful Canons Park in Stanmore which is being supported by TfL and Friends of Canons Park. This programme runs on Tuesdays and Sundays at 11am.
