Our lovely Friday Improver walk is our usual lovely hour of gentle walking (every other week this is 1.25 hours) but with a little extra to improve your fitness level. It may be speed, distance or hills but all within a moderate range to improve you gradually.

This short beginner course (90 minutes) will allow you to experience the "Power of the Poles" and get to know how Nordic walking can really benefit you in so many ways! This session includes the chance to discover some of the amazing history as well as stunning views (on a clear day) around the local area. The Nordic walking poles help on any climbs and descents along the way.
We supply the poles so all you need is:
A pair of walking shoes or trainers with a flexible sole are suggested rather than hiking boots.
Layered clothing as we can get rather hot!
A small backpack to carry any belongings and a bottle of water as you need to be able to swing both arms freely.

The wellbeing walk is suitable for those who have completed the Power of Poles Introductory course/Learn to Nordic walk course and/or haven`t attended a class for a while.
This walk is also suitable for anyone coming back from an injury/illness or has medical conditions that prevent them from walking at a faster pace.
By regularly attending, you will be able to focus on increasing the intensity of your walking as fitness levels improve.

Pace one
A 2k to 3k gentle WALX that incorporates balance work, flexibility and strength exercises and maybe a bit of yoga or relaxation too. On Monday these walks take place around Stanmore and Harrow Weald on mainly flat terrain but we do go on trails through the woods so that we can enjoy the changes in nature throughout the year. This is a very friendly group and we are always ready to welcome new walkers who want to get back into exercise in a safe and gradual way.
Starting in April 2025 there is also the option to sign up for the 6 week Total Body Walking Programme in the beautiful Canons Park in Stanmore which is being supported by TfL and Friends of Canons Park. This programme runs on Tuesdays and Sundays at 11am.
