A 2k to 3k gentle WALX that incorporates balance work, flexibility and strength exercises and maybe a bit of yoga or relaxation too. On Monday these walks take place around Stanmore and Harrow Weald on mainly flat terrain but we do go on trails through the woods so that we can enjoy the changes in nature throughout the year. This is a very friendly group and we are always ready to welcome new walkers who want to get back into exercise in a safe and gradual way.

Starting in April 2025 there is also the option to sign up for the 6 week Total Body Walking Programme in the beautiful Canons Park in Stanmore which is being supported by TfL and Friends of Canons Park. This programme runs on Tuesdays and Sundays at 11am.

Walk Description:

West Wittering is a firm favourite with our members and it’s easy to see why. With its beautiful sandy beach, open skies and ever-changing coastal views, it’s a fantastic place to walk at any time of year.

Starting from West Wittering Memorial Hall, we have a variety of routes to choose from depending on the weather, tide and conditions underfoot, but they will all eventually take us onto the glorious West Wittering Beach.

When the tide allows, there’s nothing quite like striding out across the firm sand, particularly with poles. The wide, open beach also gives us plenty of opportunity to work with different walking speeds. Faster walkers can stretch their legs and pick up the pace, while those who prefer a steadier pace can enjoy the scenery without feeling under pressure. We have ways of keeping everyone active while still bringing the group back together.

Expect plenty of fresh sea air, great views and good company. It can be windy and blustery on the coast, so please come dressed for the conditions.

A wonderful coastal walk that never feels quite the same twice.
