A gentle safe way to walk yourself fitter! These walks include exercises that help with flexibility, balance and strength whilst using poles to improve general fitness and increase joint mobility. Suitable for those who want to build up to the longer or more vigorous walks or may have concerns about their health.

Walk Description:

This walk takes us through the gem that is Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve; ‘Lying at the heart of the Silverdale Arnside AONB, Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve is one of Britain’s most important limestone landscapes made up of a diverse mosaic of limestone and peatland habitats.

The NNR contains an intricate mosaic of limestone habitats that are home to a rich variety of exciting and often rare wildlife. From open rock pavements to damp fen; from deep yew forest to the tranquillity of Hawes Water, there is much to see on this visit to Gait Barrows.’

There are a number of styles on this route but they are all sturdy.

For online classes you must ensure that you have a clear area to train (Approx 2m Square).

You must dress appropriately for the session.

A moderately paced walk establishing the technique with the aim of  increasing fitness to an intermediate pace.  Benefit from a full body workout and the cross training that walking with poles gives you. It is sociable and can be followed by a cafe visit when covid restrictions allow.

You can join this  OPEN wellness walk with or without poles . It is a friendly,  supportive mixed ability group. We prefer to walk with poles as it is more effective than ordinary walking .When poles are used we are able to engage the upper body, core muscles, improve posture and burn more calories

You will need to book online as a completed PARQ ( Health  form ) is required

 These walks will be ideal for anyone recovering from Covid and those walkers who want a gentle return to pre lockdown fitness levels.  These sessions will help you become fitter and stronger if you have Neurological problems, medical conditions, jointproblems  or are returning to exercise after being inactive. They are supported by the NeuroTherapy centre in Saltney.

 Please  bring with you a mask, hand gel/ wipes, and  a pair of disposable gloves in a small rucsac with your drink  and any medication you may need .
